Course Description:
Resource offers a small group setting for special education students to receive academic support with their regular education classes. Attention is given to individual student learning styles according to the needs expressed in their IEP. Resource teaches strategies and study skills needed for students to be successful in their classes.
Expectations:
A. Students will bring books, assignments, and any other material needed from their mainstreamed classes to their resource hour.
B. Students will work cooperatively with resource staff.
C. Students will remain on task and engaged in academic activities after classroom assignments are completed.
Evaluation:
A. Students receive credit and a Pass/Fail grade for their resource hour.
B. Students earn credit for participation and time on task in class.
C. Students will earn 5 points daily for the following areas:
- 1 Point: On time (In the door at the bell)
- 1 Point: Brought Materials (Brings all necessary materials to class)
- 1 Point: Cooperative (Responds to teacher’s instruction without hesitation or arguing; kind to staff and peers)
- 2 Point: Stayed Focused for the hour (Works on assignments throughout the entire hour (see ‘During Class’, #2 below for more on this); does not talk or interrupt others)
Procedures:
Start of Class
1. Get your weekly resource sheet from the crate.
2. Sit in assigned seat, if given.
3. Complete your daily learning objectives.
4. Complete planner or calendar.
5. Get your work out and begin working.
During Class
1. Resource staff will check school view and assist in prioritizing what assignments should be completed.
2. If assignments are completed, continue working on other tasks such as:
- Studying vocabulary from chapter text.
- Check iPad, study stacks, or Quizlet to see if vocabulary flash cards are available for your classes.
- Review readings from textbooks, using RAPT, SQ4R, Two Column Note strategies, or Sum-It-Up.
- Start projects that are due in the future.
- Work on transition portfolio as assigned by staff.
- Complete online educational activities as assigned by teacher such as Odyssey or VMath Live.
End of Class
1. Put materials away.
2. Complete your Resource Sheet for the hour and put away in the proper folder in the crate.
3. Remain seated until you are dismissed.
Classroom Rules:
1. Respect others and their property.
2. Follow teacher instructions.
3. Stay on-task.
4. Bring all materials to class.
In other words:
** Do what is right. (Can I trust you?)
** Do your best. (Are you committed?)
** Treat others as you would like to be treated. (Do you care about me/others?)
Consequences for Breaking a Rule:
- Warning
- Completion of re-focus form in the BLC.
- Detention assigned.
- Severe disruptions or repeated offences will result in office referral, removal from class, and parent contact.
Tardiness:
1. You must be in the room before the bell rings.
2. Detention will be assigned every 3 tardies.
Passes:
1. You are allowed 3 passes for the quarter.
2. If you go over 3, you will need to make up time during your lunch.
3. You can earn treats for any unused passes at the end of the quarter.
Device Rules
As a member of a 1:1 program, it is your responsibility to bring your device to class each day charged and ready for use. Failure to do so will result in your being sent to the Media Center to receive a violation. If your device is in need of charging it will be kept and charged for the remainder of the class hour or until it reaches 50%. It is your responsibility to pick it up between classes. Loaner devices are available only for devices that are mailed in for repair.

Violation #2 - Detention
Violation #3 - Detention and loss of privilege to take device home for the period of 20 school days.
